The Scientific Director and Leader of the TerrArctic Mega Grant Project, Prof. Dr. Orhan İnce, noted that the melting of permafrost in regions close to the North Pole causes many problems, primarily forest fires and energy security.

Prof. Dr. Orhan İnce stated that difficulties in accessing healthy water and food, difficulties in energy security, and the emergence of unknown chemicals and pathogens that are under the glaciers and that the immune system does not recognize as frozen soils begin to thaw due to global warming are among these effects. İnce stated that more green areas were formed as the glacial layer of the soil melted, and that these green areas and the plants and decayed organic structures found in the glacial state under the soil biologically decompose and turn into carbon dioxide and methane, which accelerates global warming.

İnce, who reported that dangerous heavy metals such as mercury in the sea and soil due to the melting in the region are also emerging and polluting water resources and soil, also warned that the melting soil is turning into mud and becoming a swamp, and that this is a serious danger for structures built on this ground.

İnce, who predicted that the negative effects of warming would continue and that this situation would lead to serious economic losses and ecosystem damage, made the following recommendations: "The Arctic region is currently experiencing the problems brought about by climate change. The way out of this is to completely eliminate fossil fuels, limit their use and switch to clean, renewable energy. It is time to say 'Stop' to fossil fuels by producing environmentally friendly clean energy from wind, sun and water resources and by converting all organic waste into energy. In fact, we are already late in doing so."
